Central Hostel chose to establish its first Youth Hostel in the heart of Bordeaux, on Place Saint-Projet, a place rich in history. Indeed, Place Saint-Projet is a historic square in Bordeaux that was once occupied by a church and a cemetery. However, over the years, Place Saint-Projet has undergone numerous transformations. All that remains from that time is the bell tower and the cross from the former church. 

Nowadays, Place Saint-Projet remains an important venue for Bordeaux’s cultural life. It hosts festivals and events throughout the year, including music concerts, art exhibitions, and gastronomic events. 

Thus, Place Saint-Projet is a place rich in history and culture, which has adapted to changes over time while preserving its charm and identity. It is now one of the most emblematic places in Bordeaux, attracting travellers from around the world. 

The renovation of Central Hostel Bordeaux

The building that now houses Central Hostel Bordeaux was constructed in the 18th century, next to the Saint-Projet Church built in the 14th century and listed as a historical monument. The building was originally used as a private mansion, owned by a wealthy Bordeaux family. Over the years, the building changed ownership and had different uses. Then, in 2017, founder Clarence Grosdidier purchased the building to create the very first “Boutique Hostel” with a hybrid concept of a Youth Hostel and a Hotel. 

The renovation of Central Hostel Bordeaux was carried out while respecting the original architecture of the building, while adding modern amenities to meet the needs of travellers. The renovation work lasted for an entire year and brought this historic building back to life. 

Today, with a modern and comfortable hostel, Central Hostel Bordeaux offers private rooms and dormitories at affordable prices. Travellers can enjoy views of Place Saint-Projet and the Pey-Berland Tower from their room windows.
