The Grand Théâtre is a historic monument in Bordeaux and an essential place in Bordeaux, located on Place de la Comédie, in the heart of the city. This theatre was erected in the 18th century at the instigation of Louis XVI, with the aim of opening a prestigious venue for theatrical and lyrical performances. The former Bordeaux literature university was transformed to house the Musée d’Aquitaine. It opened its doors to the public in 1987. The collection is divided into several sections, including archaeology, ethnography, the history of Bordeaux, and the history of Aquitaine. The Place des Quinconces is a great tourist attraction in Bordeaux. It is one of the largest squares in Europe, located in the heart of Bordeaux. It was built in the 18th century on the
former fortifications and covers an area of 12 hectares. At its ends, it is decorated with the Monument aux Girondins topped by a 43-metre-high column dominated by a green bronze statue of Liberty breaking its chains, as well as two columns symbolising maritime trade. The Pey-Berland Tower is a watchtower dating back to the 15th century, which was listed as a historical monument in 1862. The tower was built to serve as a bell tower for the cathedral, which did not have one at the time. Over 66 metres high, it is accessible by a spiral staircase of 231 steps.
